Being Sick

This past week has been a rough one. While I had some high hopes to get more work done on VII for NaNoWriMo and editing my next book, I entertained a relatively long-lasting cold. Nonetheless, I am still looking to end the year far better than I did in 2021.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure what this means for actually publishing Kingmaker before Christmas. But if that doesn’t happen, at least it will be the first book I publish in 2023.

And that’s really all that matters, in the end. It will be published one way or another.

Not a Lot of Writing This Week

If I’m lucky, I might be able to write 12,000 words this week. For me, that’s an incredibly low number. Especially coming off the past few weeks when I was going over 20,000 words quite consistently.

Also, keep in mind that includes all client work, blogs, stories, and YouTube scripts. Considering how I normally spend my day, 12k is a very unproductive week.

On the upside, I am feeling much better today. I even wrote 3000 words before lunch. The downside is that I can’t really do much during the weekend to play catch-up. That’s because I am participating in Extra Life’s Game Day on Saturday and Sunday.

So, I’m simply going to chalk this week up to “shit happens” and see what I can do starting Monday. In any event, I am still on track to break last year’s record of 727,944 words. It’s just not the million I was hoping to write.

Focusing On What I Can Do Next Week

As long as this cold doesn’t make some kind of weird resurgence during the weekend, I should be able to get back on track starting Monday. Yes, I am quite a bit behind for NaNoWriMo, but there are plenty of weekends left that I can squeeze in some writing.

Well, outside of Extra Life and Thanksgiving, anyway.

In reality, I should have at least two parts of the VII anthology done before next Friday while having several chapters of Kingmaker edited. I say “should” because who knows what life will toss at me next week?

The tentative plan is to write at least 24,000 words before the end of next week, which includes Saturday. And in the grand scheme of things, this really isn’t all that difficult of a goal for me.

With all of the projects I have going at any given time, it’s easy for me to get quite a bit of writing done. It all comes down to whether I can maintain my daily workflow or not.

Extra Life Game Day is This Weekend

The biggest reason why I won’t be able to play catch-up this weekend is that I plan on participating in Game Day for Extra Life. This is when we play games for 24 hours to help raise money and awareness for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Actually, Extra Life is one of the biggest reasons why I built ColoradoPlays.com, to begin with. I directly donate at least 30% of all monies generated from the blog throughout the year while giving 100% of everything we make during Game Day (November 5th and 6th).

This will be the 9th year we’ve participated. And although we don’t usually make a lot of money in donations, we still do what we can to help the charity.

Because it’s next to impossible for us to stream for 24 hours during the event, we’re breaking it up across both days. So, we’re streaming on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 9 pm both days.

If you’re bored or just want to hang out, then join us on Twitch this year.

Let’s Hope Next Week is Better!

Even though this week went into the crapper, I am still excited about the things I have planned. While this week might be one of the worst of 2022, the goal is to make next week the best.

I guess that really depends on just how much I plan to push myself. Because in the end, it all comes down to how badly I want to rewrite VII or publish my next book.

Will it be bad enough to make next week my best to date?
