Crushing Goals for March

The first week of March is virtually in the bag, and I’m having one of my better months to date. As long as I keep up the momentum, there are a lot of great things on the horizon. I just gotta make sure I’m still trudging along at a realistic pace for myself to avoid burnout.

It’s difficult to balance four part-time jobs while being a part-time student. But I think things are starting to ease a bit. In fact, not only did I have a great week for productivity thus far, but I am also in a great mental space. I’m feeling pretty good about the immediate future, actually.

So, what has me in such a great mood throughout the beginning of March?

Avoiding Procrastination

One of my biggest issues is procrastination. Yes, there is a lot of chaos in my life that taps a lot of my time. But I would have some great numbers on my time-tracking spreadsheet if I had avoided getting sidetracked or quit putting things off until later.

For example, let’s say that I wanted to make a video today but decided to do something else, like doomscroll on Threads for 30 minutes. What usually happens is that by the time I am ready to work on that video, something important comes up.

So, instead of using that initial 30 minutes to work on a blog post, video, or even my book, I wasted that time on Threads.

The point being is that reducing procrastination and getting into the mindset of “just do it,” has been quite helpful to keep things from getting too far behind this past week. That has led me to feel so much better about myself both professionally and personally.

Getting the Blogs Semi-Regular

This month, I want to focus on trying to get the blogs semi-regular. I’ve determined that I have enough time to write three for WriterSanctuary every week and then one for the other blogs. Hopefully, this will help generate enough revenue to hire a writer or two.

The trick is not to get discouraged if a blog post runs longer than average. Sometimes, I’ll write an extremely in-depth article that takes twice as long as the others. So, I might not be able to stick to a rigid publishing schedule.

Perhaps I should set a time goal instead of a publishing schedule. That would be less stressful on me, as I wouldn’t have to sweat getting a specific number of posts published each week. Focusing more on the time spent seems more aligned with the idea of defeating procrastination, anyway.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to getting more helpful content up on all of the blogs.

Focusing More on YouTube

One of my side quests in 2026 is to monetize all three of my YouTube channels and build a larger audience for WriterSanctuary. I think I am going to approach this the same way I was thinking about the blogs: time goals.

The more I think about it, the more realistic it is for me to focus on time rather than direct publishing. Not only does it help with getting rid of procrastination and wasted time, but it’s less stressful on me in general.

As long as I put in a certain number of hours into YouTube each week, we can call it productive.

So, how much time should I put into video content? What do I have available each week? Usually, I schedule 15 hours of video content. That includes all the live streams and the two-hour gaming stream for ColoradoPlays on Sundays.

Wrapping Up Fury This Month

One of my writing goals for March is to finish the first draft of Fury, the sequel to Kingmaker. As I am so close to finishing the book already, I only need 572 words per day (as of today) to wrap it up. Of course, that also depends on the next couple of chapters.

I write until the story is finished. This could mean I write more or fewer than the 115,000 words I estimated.

In any case, hitting the 572 words per day means I only have to spend 30 to 40 minutes writing the book. That’s relatively easy, as long as I stop procrastinating and put in the effort to write. Seriously, I am sure I can squeeze out a half hour of my day to finish the tale instead of watching some YouTube videos before my “workday” ends.

The editing process, on the other hand, is going to take much longer. It’s a longer book than Kingmaker, and I’m sure we’ll have to make a lot of sweeping changes to the flow. There are a lot of scenes and characters that may be better suited for book three.

Setting Up Serpent’s Tale on Wattpad

This weekend, I’d like to polish up the two stories I have and publish them to Serpent’s Tale on Wattpad. These stories don’t really take a lot of my time throughout the day, as they are projects for my Creative Writing Workshop. So, it’s school time for which it’s accounted.

Essentially, all of the stories I’m writing for college are going into Serpent’s Tale. That means it’ll be yet another unfinished book that I have on Wattpad, at least for the next couple of semesters.

The stories are all relatively short, so I can probably add more to the book when I’m just sitting around during the evenings or on the weekends. Keep in mind, I find writing (especially fantasy) quite relaxing. That means that I can easily consider it as taking “me” time, as nothing thrills and relaxes me more than writing fiction.

Serpent’s Tale is an anthology I’m working on that happens between Kingmaker and Fury. There are references to either book, but I’m making sure not to leave too many spoilers.

Poetry for the Creative Writing Workshop

Something else I am working on this weekend is poetry for my workshop. I’ve never really dabbled in poetry, preferring the storytelling layout of novels over the craft. Still, I need to do it if I want to keep my 4.0 GPA in college.

Currently, I’m working on tidying up Ode to My Christmas Tree and Brother’s Lament. The Christmas tree poem is kind of fun, but Brother’s Lament is an elegy to my brother, who ended his life a few years ago.

This is one of the reasons why I decided not to test out of the class. Sure, a lot of what we’re going over I’ve already learned. But I’ve never explored poetry before, and believe it’s a nice reprieve to experiment with different forms of writing.

Now, will I read it in front of an audience while snapping my fingers and sporting a man-bun? Doubtful. In fact, I don’t know if these poems will be public at all. But not all writing needs to be for the benefit of an audience. There’s nothing wrong with writing stories, poetry, or even screenplays for your eyes only.

Still Working Toward One Million Words

I’m not too far behind in writing a million words this year. And if I keep working on vanquishing procrastination, I can probably exceed my greatest expectations. But that will depend on how seriously I take this goal and how often I scroll through social media.

The nice thing is that I’m still writing more words than I had since I started tracking the blogs in the spreadsheet. I set a record in 2023 for 742,745 words written. So far, I keep seeing the estimates for the year topping close to 900k. I just need a bit more umph to get it over a million.

In reality, as long as I break my 2023 record, I’ll be a happy camper. I’m all about breaking personal bests, and often speak of not being in competition with anyone but yourself. As long as I write 742,746 words this year, that’s all that truly matters to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still swinging for the fences. But I’ll be happy with a double or triple in the event I don’t crush it to the upper deck.

March Is Gonna Be Awesome!

If the rest of the month goes as well as the first week, we should be seeing some great things by April. The biggest contributors to the success so far have been time management and consciously working on getting rid of procrastination.

Remember, this is The Year of Action. And the actions I’ve been taking have been making things so much easier to accomplish.

What are your plans to make March awesome for yourself?
