It’s no secret that I am spread a bit too thin. Trying to keep up with all of the side projects isn’t working today, and I have to choose something that will get my full attention throughout the week. As I am more focused on becoming an author, WriterSanctuary will get the lion’s share of my time.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not tossing ColoradoPlays and Crossing Colorado in the trash. However, they will take a backseat to my flagship, WriterSanctuary.
Why the Change?
As I said, I am spread incredibly thin. I barely have time to create new content, let alone update old posts. I haven’t had a chance to market any of the sites well, my online shop at Fourthwall is severely lacking, and I haven’t had time to test new software for reviews or tutorials.
In other words, I don’t have as much time available to really do any of the sites justice. It’s one of the major reasons why none of them are raking in the visitors or the ad revenue.
If I want to make each one a shining example of awesomeness, I need to start working on them one at a time. Otherwise, it’ll take years before I can call them successful.
By putting the majority of my effort into WriterSanctuary, I’ll have a much greater chance of making a few bucks that could help me afford writers for the other blogs. It’ll also help me reach a more secure financial level to do all of the fun things I’d like to do with each brand.
Right now, I’m barely scraping enough together to pay for a few tools or a bill here and there.
Back in the day, it wasn’t too difficult to manage all three blogs and client work. That was when all I did was write blog posts for myself and GreenGeeks. However, I’ve added a slew of projects to my plate since then.
I was able to handle everything in 2018, but not today because of the sheer volume that has been added. None of the really cool stuff is getting done because I’m doing the bare minimum for all of the projects to keep them going.
I don’t want to do that anymore.
Why WriterSanctuary and Not One of the Others?
First and foremost, I am a writer. While health, fitness, and gaming are my favorite hobbies, writing is my passion. Sure, the other niches get far more search results and interest on the Internet. But I’ve helped a lot of people find their paths as freelancers, bloggers, and self-published authors.
I can’t say that about the other brands.
Besides, the blog and YouTube channel for WriterSanctuary are currently generating more views and income than the others. That’s because I have been already putting more emphasis on WriterSanctuary over the past year than the others.
Plus, I’ve made more money with sponsored content and have received more freebies from bigger brands through WriterSanctuary than the other sites.
Another thing to consider is my work toward being a self-published author. WriterSanctuary is where I share everything I am currently learning about the process, including my college experience as I work toward my master’s degree.
So, you see, WriterSanctuary is the obvious choice to focus on for the next couple of years. It has the greatest potential to help me get to where I want to be in life over the long term.
Statistically speaking, it’s not the most lucrative out of the three, but it’s who I am.
How Does This Look Going Forward?
I schedule my “work week” as an 8-hour day with various blocks of time set for specific tasks. This includes working for GreenGeeks and writing my books. Going forward, I am assigning all of the extra blocks of time outside of client work to focus on building WriterSanctuary.
That means dedicated publishing schedules for the blog and YouTube channel as I will have plenty of time to get them done. It also means being able to put more time into developing some of the other elements I’ve always wanted to add, such as online courses and writing contests.
Essentially, Crossing Colorado and ColoradoPlays are being relegated to being hobbies. I’m sure I’ll write a blog post here and there or publish a gaming video. But my focus for the week is purely on WriterSanctuary, books, and my college work.
Well, outside of GreenGeeks, anyway.
This also means that I’ll be able to spend some time adding new designs and merch to the Fourthwall store. I’m still looking forward to seeing Kingmaker’s book cover on a throw blanket for the couch.
The bottom line is that the subscribers and followers of WriterSanctuary are about to get a whole lotta goodness from me in the very near future.
Will I Return to Building Up ColoradoPlays and Crossing Colorado?
I have no intention on giving up on ColoradoPlays or Crossing Colorado. The plan is to stabilize WriterSanctuary to a point where I can afford some help on the other sites. That might take a couple of months; it might take a couple of years. But I have full intention on getting back to them at some point.
And like I said, it’s not like I’m never writing content for either one of them ever again. In fact, I often use blog posts while learning something new or hammering out the steps to accomplish something. For instance, I plan on using a blog post on Crossing Colorado while I look up “high cholesterol,” as that was in my blood tests recently.
But as for routine content, that’ll have to wait until I can generate a few extra bucks to hire some help, such as writers and video editors.
When all is said and done, I’m merely going all-in with WriterSanctuary to help pay to build the other sites.
It’s Not a Goodbye
I’m not going anywhere. On the contrary, you’ll find more of me on WriterSanctuary and this blog. I’m just reeling back on the other blogs as I stabilize one at a time.
I’m currently working on goals to hit before I consider working on the next brand. They mostly center around income and being able to pay for assistance. So, who knows? I might be able to get back into building up ColoradoPlays by August.
Or, it’ll sit on the shelf and collect a bit of dust for the next year or two until I have the money to do it justice.
For now, though, I am quite excited to start putting maximum effort into WriterSanctuary. I have a lot of great plans ahead that I’ll have time to work on now. It’s somewhat liberating, if also sad.
But it’s not goodbye. It’s, “I’ll see you soon.”
