Living In a Hotel

Here I am, Day 2 of staying in a hotel while waiting for the house to close. I haven’t been able to get much writing done as my roommate and I are still emptying the old house. Today should be the last time I visit that mold-infested, leaky-roof money pit.

Yeah, there’s a bit of animosity there.

And usually, I love staying in hotels. But with the pandemic going on, I don’t have access to a pool or the weight room. Not to mention there is a Top Golf next door that is closed, which saddens me greatly.

Living in a Hotel for a Month

Sure, living in the Hampton Inn is a bit on the spendy side. Especially when you consider I am missing a lot of the fun amenities. However, it’s a lot better than some of the other options I have.

For one thing, I am quite quarantined here in my room. In fact, I think there are only, like, four rooms occupied at the moment. And since I am essentially a hermit who works from home, I never interact with anyone except my friend.

Who coincidentally works at the airport, so there is another reason to self-quarantine. I am constantly at risk, but in much better health than many others.

Secondly, I am a big fan of being comfortable where I am. If I have to sit and wait until the end of the month before I can move into my house, I am much better at a Hampton Inn than an AirBnb.

Right now, it’s all about being able to stay productive throughout April. And I doubt I would be comfortable staying in someone’s home for that long of a haul.

Although I can’t go swimming or relax in the hot tub, I still find the fact I am living in a hotel for a month kind of fun. But we’ll see how I feel in a couple of weeks.

What Are My Realistic Writing Goals?

Since I’m in the hotel and my children are living in Sterling, I have a lot more uninterrupted time on my hands. Which means I should be able to stay productive longer throughout the day.

And I’m not all that active on social media, so I don’t have to worry about getting sucked into the endless void of Facebook.

Though, I really should come up with a strategy for social interaction.

Getting Caught Up with Client Work

The past week has put me behind with client work. Which is a bit on the depressing side as I was making some major strides before all this happened. Luckily, and I don’t mean to boast, I am really good at my job.

So, I doubt it will take me long to catch up yet again. Especially since I have a lot more time in utter silence in the hotel room.

In fact, I might even jump on Textbroker to pad my income after recently spending so much money. That is, as long as I can find work. It looks like content mills are kind of drying up a bit in light of the pandemic.

Getting in More Blogging

As I have labeled 2020 as my “Year of Effort,” I need to catch back up to what I had planned in terms of blogging. I was doing really well in January and had the beginning of February rockin’, until the landlord pulled the rug out from under us.

I’ve spent so much time looking for rentals, properties and talking with agents that I haven’t had a chance to blog much. Then, I’ve spent the last week packing and prepping the house to move out.

However, I am starting to relax a bit and am feeling far less stressed. In fact, I’m going to see if I can get caught up enough to reach my one-million-word goal for 2020.

Working on VII

I wanted to have VII done and published by now. Well, at least editing the novel before publishing. I liked where the last chapter was going before all this hit the fan.

Luckily, I have a plan to finish it (hopefully) in April. I doubt it will be up on Amazon by then because I do have a lot of editing and polishing to do before that happens.

Still, it’ll be the largest project I’ve ever actually finished for all to read. So, I am quite excited.

And I’m already reserved for my first book being bad. But, getting it done and printed will help fuel motivation to keep going. Besides, the thought of looking over at a bookshelf and seeing my name next to Mom’s and my sister’s is incredible.

Focusing on Losing 20 Pounds

I’ve been working on losing weight since 2015. And, so far, I’ve lost 80 pounds. But, one of my goals is to look like a superhero for Halloween. Unfortunately, I say that every year.

But, I am exceptionally close this time around.

Since I am hotel-bound, and without a weight room or swimming pool, I’m going to work on bodyweight exercises. The side effect is a higher energy level and improving thought processes because that’s what fitness does.

So armed with a yoga mat, Body Blade and a set of 20-pound dumbbells, I want to see if I can drop 20 pounds by the end of the month.

Possible Video Schedule?

As I don’t have kids or animals to interfere with making YouTube videos now, I might get back to a regular upload schedule. That also depends on if the hotel’s Internet connection can handle the upload.

I’m sure it can, but I bet it won’t be as fast as my old fiber optic.

Another thing I am looking forward to is streaming live next Monday. Again, hopefully the connection stays strong enough to do so. Otherwise, I might have to use my phone. I do get unlimited data, after all.

Make the Most of a Bad Situation

Everyone is having a rough time this year. But instead of being depressed in isolation, find something constructive you can do at home. I know it’s easy for someone who is always home to say that, but everyone has something they can do to be productive.

In the end, this pandemic isn’t going to last forever. When it’s all said and done, wouldn’t you rather be proud of something you accomplished while in the middle of a quarantine?

For myself, it’s all about regaining the positive momentum I had before everything went south. And I’m talking more than just the coronavirus pandemic.

Seriously, what renting landlord would kick someone out of a house during a health crisis because they want to “try” to sell the house?
